C O M M usic blared and energy flowed up and down the rows of weight machines that had been set up in Holuba Hall as Chuck Losey III, Penn State's new head strength coach, worked with his staff to push players into giving everything they had. It was max-out day, the end of winter workouts for the Nittany Lion football team. The venue may have been dif- ferent than usual; PSU's indoor prac- tice facility was serving as a temporary home for the weight training equip- ment while the renovation project at the Lasch Building continues. The man in charge was new, too, with Losey ha- ven taken over for the recently retired Dwight Galt III. But the goals of the strength and con- ditioning program are no different than in years past. Penn State wanted a seam- less transition, and that's what Galt's protégé Losey has aimed to provide. "We've always aligned from Day 1," Losey said. "That's why we were a really good match. We've always believed that movement is the key to your team. "You can be as big and as strong as you want to be in a squat rack. But if you don't have players who get out there and move on Saturdays and then do it over and over and sustain it, you don't have much of a shot." Because the team splits up into groups for its weightlifting work, not all play- ers were present during the 45-minute session that was open to the media on March 3.
