Leading Auburn in a primetime White Out at Beaver Stadium last September, the Nittany Lion quarterback was split wide. In his place, tight end Tyler Warren shifted into the backfield for the play on second-and-goal from the 2. The direct snap offered Warren an opportunity to plow ahead into the end zone to give Penn State a 21-10 lead it wouldn't relinquish. A television replay shows Clifford far from the play, leaping, playing to the crowd, and passionately celebrating the score. Ahead of his sixth season with the Nittany Lions, he is determined to reprise that scene. "You can see the pure enjoyment and the flash of excitement, the young kid just having fun at that mo- ment," Clifford said. "It's about realizing you're in the moment before the moment, so that way you can enjoy it even more. I'm prepared for those moments and I'm going to enjoy them so much because I know how valu- able they are and because you can't get them back." Coming out of a season that began with immense promise, Clifford also understands intimately how fleeting those moments can be.
