14 OCT. 22, 2022 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED UNDER THE DOME THE BIG PICTURE GIANT KILLERS The Fighting Irish women's soccer team is in the midst of an outstanding season. Notre Dame improved to 11-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the ACC with an impressive 4-0 shutout victory over then- No. 3 Florida State Oct. 9. The catapulted the Irish from No. 17 to No. 6 in the national rankings. It marked Notre Dame's second win against a top-three team this fall (it also defeated No. 2 Vir- ginia 1-0 on Sept. 22) — the first time in program history the Irish have achieved that feat during the regular season. It also is the first time Notre Dame has beaten both Virginia and Florida State in the same season since joining the ACC in 2013. The Irish handed the defending national champion Seminoles (9-1-1 overall, 5-1-0 ACC) their first loss in almost a year (their last defeat was to Duke on Oct. 24, 2021) and their first four-goal ACC defeat since a 5-1 loss to No. 2 North Carolina on Oct. 15, 2002. For Notre Dame, it was its larg- est win against a top-three program since a 6-1 triumph over No. 2 Santa Clara on Sept. 8, 2000. PHOTOS COURTESY NOTRE DAME ATHLETICS
