DECEMBER 2022 THE WOLVERINE 45   MICHIGAN RECRUITING "They are off to a great start," Ca- bana said. "I love the way they are look- ing and the way they use their running backs. Last year, when I committed, I saw Hassan Haskins, Blake [Corum] and Donovan [Edwards]. They were three great backs getting coached up by a great coach. I wanted to be a part of that. It made my decision pretty easy." Cabana is completely solid to Michi- gan and is looking to make his official visit in December. He will graduate from Dexter early and officially join the U-M program in January. "I think enrolling early will benefit me a lot," Cabana said. "I have to put a couple of pounds on. It's been rough during football season. Last year, I put on 20 pounds. I'm excited to hit the gym hard again. Getting with the guys and bonding with the team will help. It's an extra couple of months of football. It's not going to hurt." In the second round (Nov. 4) of the Michigan state playoffs, Cabana rushed for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns, and added 4 receptions for 34 yards in a 24-7 win over South Lyon (Mich.) High. SAMAHA RECAPS OFFICIAL VISIT, PREPS FOR U.S. ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL Adam Samaha has visited Michigan on what seems like a hundred different occasions. The elite kicker out of Ann Arbor (Mich.) Huron lives right down the road from The Big House and was U-M's first commit in the 2023 recruiting cycle. His most recent trip to Michigan for the Oct. 15 weekend was a bit different, though. Samaha got the full official visit ex- perience and even closer look at his fu- ture home. "It was great," Samaha said. "I en- joyed being around my future team- mates and their families at the bowling alley. I also enjoyed spending time with the coaches and their families at Ruth's Chris. Penn State was a huge win for Michigan, and I'm super proud of the complete game we played." Samaha already has a close bond with Michigan special teams coach Jay Harbaugh. But this visit allowed him to build more of a connection with head coach Jim Harbaugh. "Coach Harbaugh spent a lot of time with me and my parents," Samaha said. "He just reinforces being yourself and having the desire to learn and compete. He got me fired up." Samaha paid close attention to Mich- igan's special teams during the win over Penn State. Under Jay Harbaugh, the unit has been one of the best in the country and features Lou Groza Award- winning kicker Jake Moody. Samaha said he can't wait to learn un- der the younger Harbaugh and has been thoroughly impressed with the special teams this fall. "Michigan is great at special teams because they value it," Samaha said. "Their schemes are amazing. It makes a lot of sense to me. I like the way Coach Jay runs the special teams." Samaha plans to visit Michigan again before the end of the season. With his senior year coming to an end, Samaha is fully focused on getting ready for Michigan and preparing for one last high school game. Samaha will participate in the Dec. 17 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in Frisco, Texas. He received his game jersey from the bowl at a ceremony in his school's gymnasium. "It was an honor. I'm truly blessed and very humbled by it," Samaha said "It's a great opportunity ahead of me, and I can't wait to make the most out of it. "Not only am I excited to play in the game, there are a lot of great players I'm excited to watch in the game, being a spectator until fourth down. "It'll be in the Dallas Cowboys' prac- tice facility — a great environment. I can't wait." ❏ Michigan kicker commit Adam Samaha of Ann Arbor Huron High will participate in the Dec. 17 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in Frisco, Texas.
