24 ■ THE WOLFPACKER N BY MATT CARTER C State athletics is about teamwork. Even collegiate sports with individual competi- tions, such as tennis and cross country, have team championships. The effort to support NC State student-athletes is also very much a team undertaking, and one great ex- ample is the work of the Wolfpack Club Board of Directors. The board members, all volunteers, willingly donate their time and efforts to help govern the organization and ensure the Wolfpack Club can meet its primary objective of funding the annual scholar- ship bill, while also being a supportive fundraising arm for NC State under the leadership of its director of athletics, Boo Corrigan. "They are very important because they help us set the direction," said Ben Broussard, executive director of the Wolfpack Club. "No big decision when it relates to major campaigns is made with- out our board's involvement. Boo works very closely with our board chair and ul- timately with our board to determine the direction of the projects that we take on. "They all provide expertise from their walks of life, from a perspective of things they're good at. They all help us identify future prospects that could help us fund a project. They are integral in what we do." Broussard works closely with the board, and the two are in regular contact beyond the annual meetings. The recently enshrined board presi- dent is Eddie Wetherill, who replaced Brian McMurray. The vice president is Clyde Phillips, and Elizabeth Cooley is the new treasurer. The most well-known Wolfpack Club board member may be former star receiver and longtime NFL veteran Jerricho Cotchery. The members meet quarterly with both Corrigan and the chancellor at NC State, Randy Woodson. New members are chosen through an internal process, with a goal of representing diverse back- grounds, geographic locations and areas of expertise. "If you have a board full of 13 engi- neers, that's probably a really smart board, but from our perspective, that's Jerricho Cotchery won first-team All-ACC honors as a wide receiver in 2002 and '03 before embarking on a 12-year NFL career. He now serves on the Wolfpack Club Board of Directors, helping chart a course forward for NC State athletics.
