SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2023 ■ 47 Corrigan hailed the agreement as "a great thing for us." He said the $300 million renovation commitment will enhance the experience both for Wolf- pack student-athletes and the NC State fanbase. Corrigan also noted that the area development will make PNC Arena " a m o r e d y n a m i c space." "College athletics at times can be a bit of an arms race," Corri- gan noted. "It's kind of great to be in this rela- tionship that we have with the Centen- nial Authority as well as the Hurricanes, and we're excited about it." Of course, for many NC State foot- ball fans, the questions quickly pivot to the potential impact of the Wolfpack's well-known tailgating atmosphere at next-door Carter-Finley Stadium. NC State will have a designated "tailgate zone," although that space has not yet been defined. The agreement stipulates that no vertical development will occur in that zone. Corrigan also explained that NC State has been "fortunate" with the park- ing setup around the football stadium. There are more than 14,000 available spots for Wolfpack fans, some of which are located at PNC Arena. The plans call for 95 percent of the parking located in the redevelopment portions to be replaced, with 50 percent of that total to be made up of surface parking. Decks are likely to account for the other 50 percent. The parking options around the sta- dium will still be plen- tiful, Corrigan said. "That leaves another 10,000 other spots that are out there. We've talked about this be- fore, it's like the best and worst problem in the world to have," he said. "We have unbelievable parking. It's as good as there is in college football. We're going to lose some. It's going to repurpose, but we still have an awful lot of parking." ■ " To be sure, this building is going to be a phenomenal place for NC State athletics to continue to play in and thrive in." " Centennial Authority chairman Philip Isley As part of a lease extension for the Carolina Hurricanes, PNC Arena will receive a $300 million makeover in the coming years. The area around the facility is also set to be redeveloped, with those projects expected to include an indoor music venue, retail and office space, and a hotel. PHOTO COURTESY NC STATE ATHLETICS
