30 CAVALIER CORNER & The VAF was excited to work with the Virginia Men's Lacrosse pro- gram to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1999 National Champi- onship on April 5-6. The weekend started off Friday evening with former Head Coach Dom Starsia hosting a BBQ for members of the '99 team. On Saturday, April 6, over 130 student-athlete alumni and their families, including almost the entire '99 team players and coaches, enjoyed a pregame tailgate before attending the UVA game vs. UNC. This group spanned the class of 1969 through the class of 2023. During halftime, the '99 team members and their children were recognized on the field in front of over 5,100 fans. The group then cheered on the current team to beat UNC 14-6 as they wore throw- back uniforms to honor those worn by the '99 team. On March 23, the Virginia Athletics Foun- dation hosted a Women's Lacrosse Reunion weekend. More than 50 alumni, former athletic trainers, coaches, and their families returned to Charlottesville for the reunion activities. All attendees joined together for a tailgate prior to an exciting women's lacrosse matchup against Syracuse, dur- ing which all alumni were recognized at midfield with a special mention of the 2004 National Championship team's 20th anniversary. Alumni had the opportunity to spend more time at Klöckner Stadium that afternoon and support the men's lacrosse team during their matchup against Drexel. Following the games, alumni and guests joined the current coaching staff at The Boar's Head Resort for an evening recep- tion. Those in attendance were treated to remarks from the 2004 team captains, for- mer head coach, Julie Myers, and Virginia's current head coach, Sonia LaMonica. Coach LaMonica commented, "Events like this are so important because they remind us of the foundation that our women's lacrosse alumni, former coaches, and staff have laid for our team and provide our program with the opportunity to stay con- nected with an amazing group of men and women."
