34 CAVALIER CORNER cavalier profile ANNA WORKMAN Fourth-Year • Track Excelling in the classroom and on the course is the name of the game for fourth- year student-athlete Anna Workman. A native of Kingston, Ontario, Workman has been a crucial member of the Virginia women's cross country and track and field teams for the past four years. Her hard work was honored at the annual Hoos Choice Awards when Workman won the Jettie Hill Memorial Award. This award is given to the fourth-year female student- athlete with the highest scholastic average through her four years at UVA. The two-time All-ACC and two-time All-America honoree during the 2024 indoor track and field sea- son was busy presenting her final project the night of the awards banquet. "I was actually at my capstone sympo- sium the night of the Hoos Choice Awards," Workman said. "The next thing I saw was my dad texting me, 'Congrats!' It really was great recognition for all my hard work." Workman was grateful for her teammates rallying around her winning an award that embodies success in the classroom and on the track. "My academics were quite separate from the team, and so there were times with my class schedule that I would have to do workouts on my own," Workman said. "Hav- ing your teammates congratulate you and recognize a piece of your life outside of the team was cool." Speaking of the team, Workman played a vital role in the women's distance medley relay's success this indoor season, with the quartet breaking the Virginia program record three times. The success continued when they earned All-ACC and All-America accolades. The fourth-year also managed to maintain a near-perfect GPA while majoring in bio- medical engineering. She has earned a trio of ACC Academic Honor Roll awards. While it might be difficult for some, Workman enjoys the balance of having a rigorous schedule to remain on top of her work in the classroom and on the track. For this, Workman was also awarded the Fred and Nancy Stubble- field Endowed Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year. — Jen Dietrich • Photo courtesy UVA
