10 CAVALIER CORNER cavalier sports HOO'S TWEETING 12th 12th UVA player ever to be se- lected in the first round of the NBA Draft is forward Ryan Dunn, who was picked No. 28 overall by the Denver Nuggets June 26. He was immediately traded to the Phoenix Suns. Dunn averaged 8.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.3 blocked shots and 1.3 steals plus was an ACC All-Defensive team selection as a second-year in 2023-24. The other 11 UVA first-rounders are Barry Parkhill (1973), Wally Walker (1976), Jeff Lamp (1981), Ralph Sampson (1983), Olden Polynice (1987), Bryant Stith (1992), Cory Alexander (1995), Justin Anderson (2015), De'Andre Hunter (2019), Ty Jerome (2019) and Trey Murphy III (2021). 1 Virginia baseball player has re- ceived the Brooks Wallace Award (annually given to the nation's top shortstop): Griff O'Ferrall in 2024. The third-year became the first ACC shortstop to take home the honor since 2017. O'Ferrall played in all 63 games at short in 2024 and batted .324 with 20 doubles, 5 hom- ers and 52 RBI and a team-high 17 stolen bases. He also made only 4 errors in 249 chances (.984 fielding percentage) on his way to becoming just the third Cavalier to win a Gold Glove. In addition, he joined Ryan Zimmerman as the only Cavaliers to produce back-to- back 90-hit seasons. He has the most hits (270) and runs scored (196) of any three- year player in program history. 7 Cavaliers have been tabbed as the ACC Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year in program history, with Dylan Dietrich the latest to accomplish that feat. The Zurich, Switzerland, native joined Brian Vahaly (1998), Doug Stewart (2003), Somdev Devvarman (2005), Alex Domijan (2011), Mitchell Frank (2012) and Brandon Nakashima (2019). Dietrich boasted a 23-7 record and was No. 52 in the ITA Singles rankings heading into the NCAA Singles Championship. He advanced to the round of 16 to earn All-America honors. 117 Home runs for the UVA base- ball team, which shattered the school record for a single season. It is the third straight year the Cavaliers have broken that mark — 75 in 2022, 83 in 2023 and 117 in 2024. Six different Cavaliers produced multi- homer games this season, including first- year first baseman Henry Ford. He tied for the team lead with three multi-homer games, including the first 3-homer game by a Cavalier in 22 years. Second-year outfielder Harrison Didawick finished with a team-high 23 dingers, which matched Jake Gelof's school record set in 2023. You never know how long it's going to last." — Former UVA basketball player Sam Hauser on winning the 2024 NBA title with the Celtics 224 Goals for graduate student attackman PAYTON CORMIER during his illustrious career at UVA. Not only is he the top goal scorer in school history but he is the most prolific scorer in Division I history, breaking the previ- ous mark held by former Penn State standout Mac O'Keefe (221). Cormier also holds UVA marks for most goals scored in a single game (8, in a 17-11 victory over Saint Joseph's in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament) and single season (65 in 2024).
