In 2012 as the team's nickel back, Burris started five of 13 games, made 43 tackles, broke up eight passes and intercepted two throws. photo by Ken Martin they did, and bring that kind of work ethic to the game," Burris said. The proliferation of spread offenses that typically feature three- and four-receiver sets has made the nickel back essentially a starter in today's college football. Burris actually ended up starting five of 13 games last year, and finished with 43 tackles, eight passes broken up and three interceptions in 479 plays. He finished the regular season with a flourish with picks in back-to-back games at Clemson and versus Boston College. Burris had a pair of firsts during NC State's 17-16 upset of then-No. 3 Florida State last year. He started and picked off a pass from future NFL first-round pick EJ Manuel of the Seminoles. "I played 60-plus snaps and 70-plus snaps last year," Burris said. "Playing in those games against teams like Florida State, Clemson and Tennessee, those are big-time teams. I definitely got a lot of experience in those games." Burris tangled with some current NFL wide receivers last year, including Tennessee's Cordarrelle Patterson and Justin Hunter, and Clemson's DeAndre Hopkins. "When you play at a major university and play in the ACC, you are going to get a lot of guys," Burris said. "I know we'll be playing eight, nine receivers this year who could play in the league." Facing them while playing in Raleigh just makes it that much more satisfying for Burris. ■ Phone: 919-834-1990  •  Fax: 919-834-1998 bms12@nc.rr.com   –   Commercial jed.barbour@bmsdry.com   –   Residential Proud to support the Wolfpack and NC State!
