INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS We made a proposal, as did others, and he chose us. It was the start of a great relationship. Bruce requested that we cover the Olympic sports at Michigan on a regular basis, and we have done that for the last 24 years. He also gave us some early advice. "Stu, the three most important things for you to be sure you cover are football, football and football," he stated. I visit our Ann Arbor office several times a year (our main office is in Durham, N.C.), and on at least one of those occasions I would meet with Bruce. It was usually the highlight of that trip. He would want to know how we were doing, and then the best part began. In his upbeat, energetic style, regularly spiced with "colorful" language, Bruce would start talking about the media industry and Michigan athletics — and the ideas and suggestions would flow. Bruce helped us sponsor the assistant coaches radio shows, land an agreement to provide donors to the Victors Club with subscriptions to The Wolverine (more on that later), start an online edition of the publication and enter the digital world with TheWolverine.com and much more. His creativity, support and encouragement were vital in making The Wolverine one of the best publications covering any sports team or program in the country. We have never had a stronger or better advocate. Bruce, we wish you the best in your retirement, and we can't thank you enough for all you did for us. *** Bruce Madej's retirement isn't the only special relationship ending for The Wolverine. This is the last issue that donors to Michigan Athletics will receive as a benefit of their contributions to the program. The athletic department is replacing The Wolverine with a full-color quarterly magazine that will focus on its outstanding student-athletes and its exciting facility projects. This decision ends an over 20-year, hand-shake arrangement with Michigan Athletics (formerly the Victors Club). We have appreciated their business and enjoyed working with the different leaders of the department and their staffs through the years. Those affected by this decision can still continue to receive The Wolverine, our annual football preview magazine and our digital newsletters during football season by subscribing now. You can call us toll-free (800-421-7751, MondayFriday, 8:00-5:00 Eastern time) to place credit card orders, use the coupon on the front cover of this issue, send in the renewal offer you have been mailed or go to our online store at thewolverineondemand.com.
