MICHIGAN BASKETBALL BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK • Michigan's 85-61 win over Long Beach State in the opening game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Nov. 21 featured a tournament-record 14 threepointers made by the Wolverines. That effort topped the 13 threes Houston made against Charleston in 2007. • Sophomore guard Nik Stauskas scored 24 points in the win over Long Beach State, knocking down 7 of 10 shots, including 4 of 6 from threepoint range. He also went 6 of 8 from the free throw line, grabbed four rebounds and made three assists. He passed 500 career points in the win. • Freshman point guard Derrick Walton actually led the Wolverines in rebounds versus Long Beach State, pulling down seven. He also tossed in three three-pointers to account for his nine points. • Michigan moved to 23-0 under John Beilein when scoring 80 or more points, rallying from 16 down to beat Florida State 82-80 in overtime at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Nov. 22. Stauskas moved his career high in scoring up once again, tossing in 26 points versus the Seminoles, including 23 after halftime. • Stauskas not only set a then-career high in scoring against FSU, he moved up his career bests in free throws made (nine), free throw attempts (12), minutes played (44) and tied his career high with two steals. • Sophomore forward Mitch McGary posted three assists, while scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in 33 minutes of action against Florida State. • Sophomore guard Caris LeVert established new career marks in rebounds (eight) and minutes played (39) versus FSU, while tying his career high in assists with five. • Walton set career highs in points (15), free throw attempts (seven), assists (six) and minutes played (34) in the win over the Seminoles, while tying career bests in three-point field goals (three) and free throws made (four). • A Charlotte put-back with one second remaining cost Michigan the championship of the Puerto Rico TipOff, with the Wolverines falling 63-61 Nov. 24. Stauskas earned Most Valuable Player distinction for the tournament, making the five-player alltournament squad as well. • The Wolverines set team highs for the year in steals (12) and offensive rebounds (14) in the title contest versus Charlotte. Sophomore Spike Albrecht set a career high with four of those steals, while Stauskas upped his career mark with three steals. • Sophomore forward Glenn Robinson III injured his lower back on a hard crash to the floor, winding up playing a career-low nine minutes in the championship game. Freshman Zak Irvin came on to post career bests in rebounds (six), three-point field goals (two), assists (two) and minutes played (26). • Fifth-year senior Jordan Morgan
