WOMEN'S BASKETBALL got going. Michigan shot 19 of 61 from the field (31.1 per- cent), including a 2-of-16 ef- fort from three-point range. Junior guard Shannon Smith (17 points) and Elmblad (11 points) led the way, but the rest of the team mustered just 22 points in the defeat. MVP — Junior for ward Cyesha Goree: In a five-game stretch to open the month of February, Goree posted four double-doubles with 10 points and 10 rebounds versus Min- nesota Feb. 1; 12 points and 11 boards versus Purdue Feb. 9; 20 points and 10 rebounds against Nebraska Feb. 13; and an incredible 30-point, 19-re- bound performance at Illinois Feb. 16. Goree is nearly averag- ing a double-double this sea- son, with 12.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Notable Stat: Elmblad (36.5 minutes per game), Thomp- son (36.0 minutes per game) and Smith (31.8 minutes per game) are all on the court for at least 30 minutes per game. Including Goree (28.3 minutes per game), sophomore guard Madison Ristovski (26.7 minutes per game), senior center Val Driscoll (23.0 minutes per game) and freshman guard Paige Rakers (15.6 minutes per game), those seven are the only players who have played in more than half of Michigan's games. Upcoming Game To Watch — Big Ten Tournament, March 6-9: The Wolver- ines are likely headed to a WNIT appearance, which is still pretty impressive con- sidering that many pundits picked them to finish last in the Big Ten this season. But Michigan could do some damage in the conference tournament, especially if Goree continues to play at her current pace. The Wolverines are on pace to grab the No. 6 seed. The tournament will be held in Indianapolis this season. — Andy Reid Junior forward Cyesha Goree scored 30 points and pulled down 19 rebounds in the Wolverines' 70-63 win at Illinois Feb. 16.
