part of the plan in 2013, but Ways also proved to be an effective route runner, finding space over the mid- dle and on wide receiver screens. "He accepted all the various roles," MacLean said. "We got off to a little bit of a difficult start, losing our first three games, and we prob- ably weren't utilizing him as best as we could have. That was a decision we made as a coaching staff: we had to get him the ball more, because when we were, he was dynamic, and he was making plays. "The other thing Maurice did, which is one of the things that will aid him greatly at the next level, is he became a much more physical player. He blocked. He sprung a lot of our running plays. He was a physical guy, who was very dif- ficult to play against. Obviously, he has the size and those things, but he used it to the best of his ability. That is going to bode very well. Those in- tangible things are going to be what separate him at the next level.
