"After the last game of our season, I was 225 pounds and I'm 240 now, so I've gained a lot of weight and I'm trying to play with that weight," he said. "In the game down in Florida, I think I did well with it. I adjusted to being bigger. "I didn't miss a step. Everything that I had before, I still had, but then my punches got stronger. I could feel myself beating the offensive linemen with better moves, with more power. And I think I actually got faster, too, because I added some explosion at the snap." It is that continued maturation that excites the Wolverines. "As a player, you can see consis- tent growth and a high ceiling," Sin- gletary said. "Early on in his career, being a linebacker and then going to defensive end, his maturation physi- cally and mentally, I think he has a pretty good upside. "He fulfills our need of a pass rusher. He was a fit and a really good idea for him to come here in the grand scheme of things." The Maize and Blue return all three of their weakside/rush defensive ends next season, including rising senior Frank Clark. While the field is crowded and the competition for playing time will be fierce, Marshall is confident he can contribute some. "I bring speed and a big motor," he said. "I don't stop if the play's not coming to my side. I play sideline to sideline, and I think I can bring that relentless attitude to the table. "Michigan has good pass rushers, but I think I can contribute on third downs in passing situations, just get- ting on the field to use my moves and get to the quarterback." — Michael Spath
