OLYMPIC SPORTS 20 appearances (15 starts). And freshman Megan Betsa is cementing herself as one of the brightest young stars in the Big Ten. In 20 appearances and 15 starts, she had posted a 11-3 record. In 79 1 ⁄3 innings, she allowed just 48 hits, fanned 104 and posted a 1.85 ERA. "I think we're feeding off of each other," Betsa said. "Haylie does well, Sara does well — my mentality is that I want to be just as good as they do. If one of us isn't at our best, it's our job to pick them up. That's what Haylie did today [closing out the game]. I gave the best of what I had today, and Haylie finished it." Offensively, the Wolverines ranked No. 1 nationally in team batting average (.356) and No. 5 in runs per game (6.9). Sophomore Sierra Romero — who was the Big Ten Player of the Year as a rookie — has continued her dominance, ranking No. 1 nationally in batting average (.514). WOMEN'S GOLF GEARS UP FOR BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS In the Michigan women's golf team's final tune-up tournament before the Big Ten Championships April 25-27, the Wolverines had an encouraging outing at the Web.com Intercollegiate April 7-8. Michigan shot a combined 909 in three rounds, with round scores of 301, 304 and 304, to tie for 15th place in a competitive field. Florida State won the tournament with a 13-under- par 851. Michigan head coach Jan Downing is still looking for the Wolverines to reach their potential before the postseason begins — but the team is certainly making progress. "We've really made some great headway," Downing said. "Even though we haven't played our best in the past week, our 'not so good' is turning into better golf. We've got to keep chipping away at that, like being able to score when you're not hitting it as well as you'd like to. I think overall this team as a unit has traveled together for a while now, and that's when you really get to know each other, when you travel together. We've really come together. I think they really trust the process we're going through and that's a huge thing. I know we're excited to get back and get well rested, get some work in and make some minor adjustments as we head into Big Tens." The Wolverines will have some ground to make up if they want to win the Big Ten Championships, which will be held in French Lick, Ind. Three other conference teams participated in the Web.com Intercollegiate. Michigan tied Illinois, while Ohio State finished third (877) and Minnesota placed sixth (884). After playing in five tournaments in a six-week span, the Wolverines were pleased to have a week off before the Big Ten Championships, so they could look at their own games and tighten things up as much as possible. "When you compete a lot in consecutive weeks, your tendencies revert back to your old habits and that was evident the last two days while we were competing,"
