PREP PROFILES Recruiting timetables vary from prospect to prospect, with some looking to commit early and others more willing to drag the process out. Four-star defensive end Keisean Lucier-South falls into the latter c a t e g o r y. H e ' s m a d e p l a n s for some local unofficial visits, but is in no rush to even trim his list. "I'm still taking i t s l o w r i g h t n o w, " L u c i e r - South, an athletic, 6-4, 211-pouner, s a i d i n e a r l y April. "I don't have any favorites. I don't even have a top 10 or 15 at this point, but I'm going to do that during summertime. "I'm probably going to watch USC and UCLA practices in the next couple weeks, and that's it right now for my recruiting." Normally this wouldn't be news for Michigan fans. It's not often a top-ranked player from California gets out of his home state anymore. Lucier-South, though, provided more than a glimmer of hope recently when he called Michigan his "dream school" and said he'd like to visit either unofficially this summer or officially in the fall. Florida and Kentucky, meanwhile, are his two newest offers. Alabama, LSU and plenty of others had offered before his junior season concluded, and the Crimson Tide offer was especially big. "I'm really going to look at them," Lucier-South said. "It's a big school. I'm a California k i d , a n d w e don't really get Alabama offers. It's a huge thing, and I'm going to look at them. I might take a visit there during the summertime." Known for his c l o s i n g s p e e d and athleticism, Lucier-South has been invited to both The Opening and The Rivals.com Five-Star Challenge recruiting events this summer. He hopes to see Texas, Oregon and perhaps a few other West Coast schools, and though he insists there are no outright favorites, Michigan, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas are a few that stand out. "I already told my parents I'm going to commit on signing day," Lucier-South said. "That's my timeframe for my decision." That plan won't change, he insisted, since he doesn't want to commit too soon and have to open things back up. — Chris Balas Top Defensive End Has U-M Among His Favorites ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Orange Lutheran H.S.
