a lesson he relearned the hard way in 2013. "If I know the playbook like the back of my hand — I thought I did — there is always stuff that comes up in a game that's like, 'Oh geez, I didn't prepare for that,'" Kalis observed. "It's all experience. You just have to learn." For those getting ready for that first extensive game experience, the preparation involves perfecting tech- nique as much as possible through the spring and summer months. "I am looking at the little things," Braden said. "Now that I have had a couple years to get used to the main stuff and how everything works, now it is just going from the base and look- ing at all the little things. Is my first step too far? How is my second step? "I have always been athletic. In high school, I was always quick enough that I didn't have to focus on the little things. Now, I can't be so sporadic with it. I have to work to smooth out the technique in run and pass. "You have to get used to the fact that now, you can't really get away with some of the stuff you didn't re- ally have to focus on in high school." The Wolverines up front can't get away with much.
