MICHIGAN RECRUITING the 2015 class, but would ultimately lose five‑star running back Damien Harris (the No. 4 player and top run‑ ning back in the nation) and five‑star wide receiver George Campbell (the No. 16 player and No. 2 wide receiver nationally). The possibility of losing early commitments likely led to the Michigan coaching staff encourag‑ ing underclassmen to finish their full evaluations of all interested schools before making a U‑M commitment. SHAUN CRAWFORD CONSIDERS ND Michigan fans were — briefly, at least — concerned for the Wolverines' chances of holding onto one of their top 2015 commits. Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward defensive back Shaun Crawford is rated by Rivals.com as a four‑star recruit, the No. 4 player in Ohio, the No. 11 cornerback nation‑ ally and the No. 106 overall prospect in the class of 2015. When he com‑ mitted to Michigan last August, the lifelong Michigan fan didn't yet hold an offer from another school he grew up liking — the University of Notre Dame. When the Irish finally offered the 5‑9, 165‑pound Crawford this spring, it was considered too late for the Irish to get into the mix. He had been sol‑ idly committed to Michigan for more than six months. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES • Michigan's coaching staff will be able to hit the road through the end of May. An NCAA evaluation period began April 15, allowing coaching staffs from Divi- sion I programs to head out to high school prospects' hometowns to see the players practice with their teams or on an individual basis. The period is also important for gauging students' academic progress. Each college coaching staff can make one visit to a high school for athletic evaluation and one for academic evaluation during the period. No more than two coaches per school may participate in any single trip to a high school for a given prospect. • Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven linebacker Joshua McMillon is one of the country's top defensive prospects, ranked as the No. 69 overall player and No. 4 outside linebacker nationally by Rivals.com. Michigan was thought to be a long shot for the 6-3, 245-pounder, but that changed when he made it to Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit in April. The Wolverines are now a contender for the four- star's services. • Many players who are high on Michigan's list — but have yet to receive of- fers from the Maize and Blue — plan to attend the annual Wolverine Technique School summer camp June 15-19. Northville, Mich., offensive lineman David Moorman, Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice quarterback Alex Malzone and class of 2016 Naperville (Ill.) North cornerback Emmanuel Rugamba are among those who will head to Ann Arbor seeking camp offers.
