BASKETBALL RECRUITING New Names Emerging In 2015 Michigan coaches haven't extended a huge number of offers in the class of 2015, perhaps one of the primary reasons they have yet to receive their first senior pledge. Three guards currently hold offers — Jalen Brunson (6- 1, 175, PG, Rivals.com's No. 15 senior nationally) of Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson, Jalen Coleman (6-2, 165, SG, No. 36 senior in the country) of La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere, and most recently Eric Davis (6-2, 165, SG, No. 39 senior in the land) of Saginaw (Mich.) Arthur Hill. Michigan jumped on Brunson early and might have been the favorite at one point, but the Wolverines are now one of eight finalists with Temple, Villanova, MSU, Kansas, Illinois, Purdue and UConn. There were reports that Brunson's father, Rick, had accepted a job as an assistant at Temple (his alma mater), which would have made them the favorite, but recent legal allegations have put that in jeopardy. There were rumblings that Michigan State was No. 2 behind the Owls. Coleman, once a potential candidate to pledge to Michigan in the fall, now has have Gonzaga and MSU. • DeVearl Ramsey, 5-11, 180, PG, Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon: Rivals. com's No. 44 junior nationally has been offered by USC, Washington and other West Coast schools. He was slated to visit Michigan recently, but an injury pre- vented it. He still plans to get to campus, where he could earn an offer. He's a fearless penetrator who pushes the ball. While he's not a great shooter yet, he's improving. He has everything else you're looking for in a point guard except for ideal size. • Barret Benson, 6-9, 245, C, Willowbrook (Ill.) Hinsdale South: Rivals.com's No. 84 junior nationally earned offers from Indiana, DePaul, Purdue and others after an outstanding spring with the AAU Illinois Wolves. Illinois and Michigan are among those showing serious interest, and he really likes U-M. He hasn't an- nounced a list of favorites and wants to take his time, but it's clear he's a player on the rise. • Austin Davis, 6-10, 255, C, Onsted (Mich.) High: Davis is still a project, but he scored 50 points in a high school game and averaged 21 points and 15 rebounds per contest as a sophomore. He isn't overly athletic but will improve when he's in better shape, and he's a solid finisher around the rim even if he's not an explosive leaper. He grew up a Michigan fan and has visited both U-M and Michigan State twice. BRUNSON
