N
otre Dame landed its first commit-
ment of the 2015 recruiting class
July 11 when Cortlandt Manor (N.Y.)
Iona Prep small forward Matt Ryan
pledged to the Irish.
The 6-7, 210-pound sharpshooter
listed Notre Dame as his leader this
spring while rehabbing a hip injury
that prematurely ended his junior sea-
son. He is expected to be cleared for
full basketball activity within the next
month.
"I talked with Coach [Martin] In-
gelsby and Coach [Mike] Brey about
it, and they said if I was interested in
committing it would be a great time,"
he said. "There's a lot of players that
are taking spots at other schools. It
was a great time to commit and gives
Coach Brey a good direction to go in."
Ryan visited campus last September
and has scheduled an official visit for
the Sept. 6 night game against Michi-
gan. Brey and Ingelsby visited his
home in April and pushed him for a
commitment at that time.
The 247Sports four-star recruit has
been at the top of Notre Dame's wish
list for months, and his commitment
provides some momentum in the cur-
rent cycle. While he had hoped for
offers from Duke, North Carolina and
Michigan, he decided to end the pro-
