Notre Dame women's basketball
stars from the past, present and
future that made headlines this summer.
On June 17, Ruth Riley — who led the
Irish to the 2001 national title — retired
after a 13-year career in the WNBA. She
won two WNBA titles and also an Olym-
pic gold medal in 2004. On June 8, junior
All-American guard Jewell Loyd helped
the USA Basketball 3x3 National Team
to the title at the FIBA 3x3 World Cham-
pionship. In playground-style games,
she scored 10 points in the USA's 18-
14 semifinal victory over Belgium and
outscored host Russia in the gold medal
game with nine points in a 15-8 win. On

July 7-10 in Beaverton, Ore. That score
placed him eighth nationally among
21,000 registered performers in the mea-
surement of overall athletic ability. The
class of 2015 recruit ran a 4.32 40-yard
dash, ran the shuttle drill in 3.78 seconds,
jumped 38.6 inches in the vertical jump
test and threw the ball 39 feet in the
power ball challenge.
