STUDENT-ATHLETES THANK DONORS Each year student-athletes spend an eve- ning with their teammates in the Virginia Athletics Foundation offices calling VAF members to thank them for their sup- port. This past spring a re co rd - b re a k i n g 245 student-athletes from 12 varsity sports called 2,235 donors. Handwritten thank you notes were sent to another 565 mem- bers who could not be reached by phone. T h i s e x p e r i e n c e gives student-athletes the chance to show their appreciation to the individuals who give them the opportunity to pursue a degree from the University of Virginia and participate in the sport they love. It also allows VAF members to connect with the student-athletes whose lives they are impacting. Members are given an inside look into the day-to-day activities of a student-athlete. This fall the remaining 13 teams will have the same opportunity to call VAF members, thanking them for their support and learning why they choose to support Virginia athletics. Her professional career began with GE in their Financial Management Program. She then pursued her MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Following graduate school, she worked in strategic consulting for Anderson Consulting in Atlanta before joining Regency Centers in 1996. Now the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Regency Centers in Jacksonville, Fla., Palmer has found success on many levels, something she says started with sports. "There are so many things about athletics that help people in all aspects of their life, especially UVa athletics given the academic demands." Palmer served on the VAF Board of Trustees from 2004-09, working with the benefits and development committee. A 19-year donor to the Virginia Athletics Foundation, Palmer has been extremely sup- portive. "I was on a full scholarship when I was here and I loved the University. I felt that it was such an incredible experience. I think it's important to be able to give others the same opportunity I had and by giving back, if I can make a difference in even just one person's life, I want to do that," Palmer said.
