FOOTBALL RECRUITING after talking to connected sources that doesn't seem to be the case. The 6-5, 240-pounder grew up cheering for the Trojans, and he's been to the USC cam- pus for camp and game day visits. That all bodes well for USC's chances, but that's simply all Gustin knows. This trip is about taking a good look at another program and university and seeing what else is out there. The Notre Dame staff is hoping to blow him away when he steps on cam- pus and become a major player for his services. Gustin's primary recruiter, outside linebackers coach Bob Elliott, has succeeded in getting one of his five official visits, but it will take the red carpet treatment, a stellar atmosphere during the game, and a jaw-dropping display of the academic opportunities offered in South Bend to get Gustin to leave town feeling Irish. Per 247Sports, Gustin is the No. 23 overall recruit in the 2015 class, the No. 4 outside linebacker nationally and the No. 1 player in Utah. Notre Dame became a true threat to land Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High School four-star linebacker Tevon Co- ney when he first stepped on campus for the Irish Invasion camp June 20. The 6-1, 222-pound recruit was admittedly shocked by what he learned regard- ing the tradition of excellence, both on and off the field, and what Notre Dame stood for as a university. Blue & Gold Illustrated was on hand in Beaverton, Ore., at Nike's The Opening this past July and spent a few days with the Sunshine State prospect. Coney con- tinued to speak extremely highly of the Irish and made it clear that this was a Notre Dame-Florida battle. Sources indicate that is still the case, and that the Irish hold the edge heading into this official visit. One source stated that Coney's father, Tim Coney, loves ev- erything about Notre Dame including the academic opportunities, the foot- ball program and most importantly, the structure on campus. It's believed that the ability to turn Tevon into an adult Notre Dame and Florida are vying for Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High standout Tevon Coney, who is listed as the No. 11 inside linebacker in the land and the No. 38 player in the talent-rich Sunshine State. PHOTO COURTESY 247SPORTS
