INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Chris Hunter performed for Tommy Amaker's basket- ball squads at Michigan from 2003-06. An outstanding student as well as a strong contributor on the court, Hunter pursued a professional playing career after his days at Michigan, but has returned to join John Beilein's staff at Crisler Center. The Wolverine: What do your new duties entail? Hunter: "It's me trying to get the players to have the most productive and valuable experience here at the university. It's different projects and obligations I have. "I'll be making sure guys are where they need to be, when they need to be there. I'm taking care of other administrative duties, as far as enrolling guys into dif- ferent things. I'll be a liaison for a lot of the different departments here in the athletic department. "There are a lot of new things I have to learn, but I'm getting my hands around the job." The Wolverine: How did this opportunity come about? Hunter: "My last few years have kind of been up and down. I've been battling injuries, and going back and forth from the D-league [the NBA's Developmental League] to not playing, to rehab. I've been trying to get back to playing. "Four years ago, I tore my Achilles. I came back from that and then I tore the other one. So I've been battling that, coming back and having the opportunity to play with different NBA teams in training camps and trying to make rosters. "It was time for me to think of the next move, the next phase of my career. This sum- mer, as I was trying to figure out where I was going to play next or looking for different opportunities, this opportunity came up. It was kind of a perfect fit for me." The Wolverine: Did you know John Beilein at all before this opening came up? Hunter: "I came back on campus a few times and met with him, briefly. We had dif- ferent conversations, but it wasn't an in-depth relationship before I got here. But I've come back a few times and met with the coaching staffs." The Wolverine: Where is your level of excitement for coming back to Michigan basketball, in its present strong state? Hunter: "It's great. I've been a fan from afar, keeping up with the basketball team Sitting Down With U-M Basketball Director Of Player Personnel Chris Hunter Hunter, who played at U-M from 2003-06, has returned to join John Beilein's staff at Crisler Center.
