ichigan athletics director
David Brandon will never
be caught taking the timid
approach. From insisting
he'll err on the side of tough football
scheduling in a playoff era to his vision
of $350 million worth of facilities up-
grades on U-M's athletics campus, he's
moving forward without hesitation.
Brandon sat down for an extended
interview with The Wolverine, discuss-
ing not only the financial shape his
department finds itself in at the end of
the last fiscal year (July 1, 2013-June 30,
2014), but the overall state of Michigan
athletics.
The Wolverine: Can you sum up how
the Michigan athletic department
performed financially during the last
year?
Brandon: "We're in strong financial
position. Our revenues are a little
ahead of our budget plan. That's al-
ways good. We controlled our costs.
Any budget variances on the cost side
were smaller than the budget vari-
ances on the revenue side.
"The operating surplus we finished

Brandon said of the financial situation of
the Michigan athletic department, "We're
in strong financial position. Our revenues
are a little ahead of our budget plan. That's
always good."
