HEALING UP
Having a full complement in the
secondary wouldn't hurt, either.
Peppers might be a freshman, but
he showed in the Appalachian State
game he has a chance to be a differ-
ence maker. He closed quickly on
one short pass after showing great
instincts and tackled like a veteran.
"It wasn't too big for him," Matti-
son said. "I was very impressed with
that part of it. I watched him early
pregame, how he acts, and it was
just how I thought he would be. The
plays he made, a couple tackles —
that's what I thought I would see.
The guy is very, very explosive. He's
going to bring it. That was good.
"When a guy has earned the right
to be a starter, any time he's not in
there, that hurts you. He's a starter.
The thing he brings is a lot of fire
