  FROM OUR READERS The head coach and both coordinators on this staff could show off national championship rings to recruits, if they so chose. The goal is to win every single game, and they all know it. Plus, they have recruited very well, at least according to all those who keep track of such matters. In the present state, though, developing enough to win the Big Ten on a consistent basis sounds like a pretty solid plan, and opens the door for everything else. HOPING FOR THE BEST Dear The Wolverine: I am as loyal a fan as there is for over 55 years, but this is a team that is hard to watch. All day." —Yost24 From Our Website CONFOUNDED BY NOTRE DAME Dear The Wolverine: I have been following Michigan football closely for over 55 years (as a fan, alum, and season ticket holder, including having been to 20 straight bowl games and attending games at Michigan Stadium and elsewhere for over 45 years, even delaying my wedding for a day so as not to miss a Michigan-Ohio State game) and I have never witnessed a worse loss than the night game at Notre Dame. It wasn't so much the loss, or even the shutout that hurt so much. It was that Michigan, Michigan, was not competitive. That I have not seen in all of the years I have been following the team. One can make excuses, such as early injuries, youth, inexperience, but they don't sustain. Notre Dame had to deal with their second major academic scandal in as many years,
