o Who?" That was
one of the headlines
in an area paper on
Dec. 28, 1968, the
day after Don Canham introduced
Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler as
the next man to coach the Michigan
Football team. The rumor was that
Canham was going after the guy at
Penn State, a fellow named Paterno,
Joe Paterno. It was already late De-
cember and Canham wanted to hire
a coach before the end of the year. He
knew that the next guy had to have
time to assemble his staff, hit the re-
cruiting trail and get ready for spring
football practice. Canham later ad-
