BASKETBALL14-15 The Big Ten's Top-Five Perimeter Players Michigan will certainly feature some of the best perimeter players the Big Ten has to offer. Here's a top five, constructed in part through how preseason prognosticators see the conference's personnel shaking out. 1. Terran Petteway, Jr., G-F, Nebraska — Petteway averaged 18.1 points per game last year, pacing the Cornhuskers' surprising showing. 2. Yogi Ferrell, Jr., G, Indiana — Ferrell averaged 17.3 points and 3.9 assists in an off year for Indiana. As those around him grow up, he'll look even better. 3. Caris LeVert, Jr., G, Michigan — Could the same school produce three straight Big Ten Player of the Year win- ners? The 6-7, multi-talented LeVert gives the Wolverines a shot. 4. D.J. Newbill, Sr., G, Penn State — Newbill poured in 17.8 points per game for the Nittany Lions a year ago and gives them a poised court pres- ence at all times in his fourth season. 5. Rayvonte Rice, Sr., G, Illinois — Rice put up solid numbers (15.9 scoring, 6.0 rebounding) for the Il- lini this past year. This is another case where he'll get better as the support- ing cast does. Honorable Mention — Maryland's Dez Wells, Michigan State's Branden Daw- son, Michigan's Derrick Walton Jr. and Zak Irvin, Minne- sota's Andre Hollins, Ohio State freshman D'Angelo Russell, Indiana freshman James Blackmon Jr. — John Borton Sophomore Zak Irvin, who claimed U-M's Sixth Man Award in 2014, has the potential to make the leap into becoming one of the Big Ten's best perimeter players.
