GAME PREVIEW: ARIZONA STATE was considered more of a strength. The Sun Devils lost nine starters from last year's defense and were ex- pected to struggle in 2014 on that side of the ball, best manifested in their 62-27 loss at home to UCLA Sept. 25. The Bruins amassed 580 yards of total offense, highlighted by two 80-yard touchdown passes. In fairness to the ASU defense, two of the UCLA touch- downs came on a 95-yard interception return and a 100-yard kickoff return, both by cornerback Ishmael Adams. Then again … after the 38-34 win versus USC Oct. 4 followed by the Oct. 11 bye week, the Sun Devils de- fense has performed well. On Oct. 25, Arizona State defeated Stanford 26-10 while holding the Cardinal to 288 yards of total offense. The next week in extremely windy conditions at Washington, ASU lim- ited the Huskies to 290 yards of total offense during a 24-10 victory, and the Sophomore linebacker Jaylon Smith recorded a team-high nine tackles, forced a fumble and broke up a pass in last year's 37-34 victory against Arizona State.
