PREP PROFILES The son of Evander "Real Deal" Holyfield, one of the greatest heavy- weight boxers of all time, is a standout running back in the class of 2016, and he recently picked up a scholarship offer from Notre Dame. Elijah Holyfield holds offers from the Irish, Georgia, Louisville, Michi- gan, Ohio State and many others. When Notre Dame o ff e re d O c t . 7 , the three-star ju- nior simply said, "Wow." "It was great," Holyfield said of his offer from the Irish. "Notre Dame has been a school that didn't talk to me too much, but then they offered out of the blue. They called my coach, and my coach told me they offered me. "I called [tight ends] Coach [Scott] Booker later that day, and we just caught up about Notre Dame, what they've been doing this season and what I've been doing this season. We really just talked about the basics. "I told him that I haven't really had a chance to watch them much this sea- son, so he was just talking about the offense they run and how they would use me. Now that they've offered, I'll definitely be watching them more. That's really all I was waiting for." Holyfield described the academic opportunities at Notre Dame as "great" and said the tradition there is "one of the best in college football." "I want to win, and I know I can do that at Notre Dame," Holyfield said. "I want to research the back- ground about the offense at Notre D a m e a n d h o w they would use me. "When I talked to Coach Booker, he just called me a game changer and a guy that is pow- erful with great speed. He thinks I would fit in perfectly for what they want to do with running backs." A trip to Notre Dame won't happen this season, but it will in the offseason. "I'll be at Michigan State [Nov. 8], but after the season I'll be at Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Auburn for a second time, Ole Miss and a bunch of others. "Getting to Notre Dame is important because it's just a prestigious school. I want to see what it's like in person." Through eight games of his junior season, Holyfield had 22 total touch- downs and 1,100 rushing yards. — Tom Loy Notre Dame Heavily Recruiting Son Of The "Real Deal" ELIJAH HOLYFIELD ✪ ✪ ✪ Woodward Academy Atlanta Status: Offered Class: 2016 Position: Running Back Ht.: 5-11 · Wt.: 200 40-Yard Dash: 4.51 247Sports Rankings: No. 26 running back na- tionally and No. 39 recruit in Georgia
