  FOOTBALL RECRUITING of the ball, and Hoke's staff imme- diately moved to bring in reinforce- ments. All of them came from the recruiting hotbed of Ohio. Pickerington (Ohio) Central safety Tamani Carter flipped from Minne- sota in January. The 6-0, 175-pounder was a three-star player and the No. 60 prospect in Ohio. He redshirted as a freshman, then left the program before his second year in Ann Arbor. Cleveland Glenville defensive end Frank Clark was as much a flier as Carter, but he worked out much bet- ter for Michigan. A 6-1, 210-pound high school linebacker, the three-star recruit and No. 52 player in Ohio bulked up to play defensive end at Michigan, where he started for three years on the defensive line and fin- ished second on the team in sacks as both a junior and a senior. He was dismissed due to an off0the0field in- cident with two games remaining in his college career. Hilliard (Ohio) Davidson defensive end Keith Heitzman was committed to Vanderbilt when Hoke was hired, but a U-M offer made the switch an easy decision for the 6-3, 237-pound three-star prospect. He made lim- ited contributions as a redshirt fresh- man and sophomore, and switched to tight end this fall, where he was primarily a reserve and utilized as a blocker. Cincinnati Winton Woods line- backer Antonio Poole was a three-star talent and the No. 26 outside line- backer nationally.
