2015 RECRUITING ISSUE
in the Midwest, so the family did what
they did best and traveled to see all
three schools in June 2014. St. Brown
said right away that he liked the at-
mosphere in South Bend and that the
distance didn't put him off.
"I'm half German, and it kind of
reminded me of there a little bit," St.
Brown said. "It was also one of my
favorite schools growing up, and
the coaches seemed to know what I
wanted to get out of a college. That
was the difference — just the campus
and the coaches."
Notre Dame continued to court
St. Brown after the visit, but didn't seal
the deal with him until Kelly flew out
to California on Jan. 28.
St. Brown said the in-home visit was
something special. His father agreed.
"What I realized — and I think ev-
eryone else did — is just how powerful
Notre Dame is with everything," John
Brown said.
A little less than a week later,
St. Brown backed that statement up
with his signature and a pledge to
Notre Dame that could be understood
in both France and Germany.
St. Brown knows his commitment
will always be remembered because
of the languages, but the next time he
has to get in front of a microphone he's
hoping to throw another voice into the
mix.
"They said I can choose between
theology and a foreign language class
[when I get to Notre Dame]," St. Brown
said. "I think I'm going to choose a
language." ✦
