MICHIGAN BASKETBALL Dawkins set a career standard with not only his points, but also his eight three-pointers (on 8-of-11 shooting). He fell just one three-pointer shy of the Michigan record of nine, set by Garde Thompson back in 1987. Michigan head coach John Beilein proved duly impressed. "I am going to have to go back through the years," Beilein mused. "I know that we have had a couple guys hit seven, but never eight, so that is amazing for him to be able to knock it down like that. "He has a great future ahead of him. He is a hard worker and he has another gear that Coach [Jeff Meyer] keeps telling him about and he can see the floor better, but you can't teach what he can do out on the court as far as shooting, especially in tough situations." Freshman Aubrey Dawkins set a career high with 31 points in Michigan's 79-69 win over Rutgers March 7, making eight three-point- ers, which was one shy of the U-M record for a single game (Garde Thompson, 1987).
