M
essiah deWeaver committed to
Michigan in June 2014 and was
excited to take the lead role in bring-
ing other recruits into the fold for his
class. A lot has changed since then.
Jim Harbaugh is now the head
coach of the Wolverines; deWeaver
has transferred high schools from
Trotwood-Madison in Trotwood,
Ohio, to Wayne High in Huber
Heights, Ohio; and the four-star sig-
nal-caller is no longer committed to
Michigan.
When deWeaver decommitted
from the Maize and Blue in late Janu-
ary, it gave Harbaugh a chance to go
out and find his own quarterback for
the 2016 class, and a few prospects
are starting to rise to the top.
The No. 1 option on the recruiting
board is Rancho Santa Margarita (Ca-
lif.) Santa Margarita Catholic's K.J.
Costello, but time may be running
out with Rivals.com's No. 25 over-
all prospect nationally. With a top
three of USC, Stanford and Michigan,
Costello will be deciding relatively
soon and with no plan to visit Ann
Arbor right now it's likely that he'll
stay out west.
With Costello looking like a miss,
attention likely will shift to Avon
(Ind.) High's Brandon Peters. The
6-4, 195-pounder is the No. 5 pro-

Rivals.com rates Brandon Peters — a 6‑4, 195‑pounder from Avon (Ind.) High — as the No. 5
pro‑style quarterback nationally and the No. 211 overall player in the class of 2016.
