He said that as soon as he stepped on
campus he loved all the people, the
network after college, and he explained
what Notre Dame has done for him. I
thought that was special."
The pitch was unique coming from
a coach who's still adjusting to the col-
lege recruiting game, but it's one that
worked with Love. The cornerback said
that he feels like he can relate to Lyght,
just like how he can associate the Irish
with his youth.
Love grew up attending Notre Dame
games in South Bend with his family.
While he can't remember exactly when
the famed picture of him in an over-
sized Notre Dame jersey was taken, he
claims he doesn't need a photo to recall
what a Notre Dame game day experi-
ence is like.
"It might only be 80,000 people in the
stadium, but it feels like 200,000 every
single game," he said. "It may not be
the biggest stadium, but it seems like
it, and every fan is motivated and dedi-
cated to the game. They aren't worried
about the atmosphere. They are just
about winning every weekend."
And Love is concerned about win-
ning, too.
He had 60 tackles and five intercep-
tions his junior season for a Nazareth
Academy squad that captured the Il-
linois Class 6-A state title.
"Being a junior last year and help-
ing my team go to state, I think that's
a special thing," he said. "I feel like
[Notre Dame head coach] Brian Kelly
is looking for the right players, because
you need to be able to win if you want
to be part of the Irish." ✦
