FOOTBALL RECRUITING terback Brandon Peters represented Michigan in Beaverton, Ore., July 6-10 at Nike's The Opening camp. On- wenu's performance turned heads, but it was more of the same following his outstanding showing at the Five- Star Challenge. Peters' performance, though, was a revelation. Ranked the No. 7 pro-style passer and No. 229 overall player in the na- tion, the 6-4, 195-pounder was named to the Elite 11 — among 24 competitors for the coveted spots — and could see himself climb like Onwenu when the next set of Rivals' prospect rankings is revealed. "Peters isn't exactly a vocal pres- ence," said Paul Myerberg of USA To- day. "But after the class left its locker room a mess after Monday's practices, it was [him] who stayed behind, un- prompted, to put the area back into spick-and-span shape. Elite 11 staffers love those little things. As a player, meanwhile, Peters simply does not get enough credit for his athleticism." BARBECUE AT THE BIG HOUSE RETURNS A late summer unofficial visit week- end known as the Barbecue at the Big House is one of the few remaining vestiges of the Rich Rodriguez era at Michigan.
