INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Student Athlete Of The Month Volleyball Junior Lindsey Lerg With a pair of Michigan alums for parents, it seemed inevitable that Farming- ton Hills, Mich., native Lindsey Lerg would end up spending her college years in Ann Arbor — yet that almost didn't happen. There were some wild swings in college allegiances before ultimately deciding on U-M. "Both of my parents went to Michigan, so growing up I was a big fan," she explained. "They never forced Michigan on me but it was just natural to like Michigan. In 2005 one of my cousins went to play hockey at Michigan State, and then another one went there the year after him. So then my whole family became full-blown Michigan State fans. Me, my brother and sister were always decked out in green and white. "During my junior year of high school, I was filling out applications, and I had a few schools that had offered me for volleyball already but I hadn't really talked to Michigan. I wanted to apply there anyway, so I did and I got in. After I got in I realized that I really wanted to come to school [here], and if I could play vol- Lerg earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award, meaning she was a letter winner who attained a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or better during the past school year.
