BASKETBALL RECRUITING We would have given Michigan the edge over MSU as of a month ago for Winston. Now, we'd call it even. Among other point guards U-M will continue to watch just in case, four-star Xavier Simpson continues to impress. The 5-11, 165-pounder out of Lima (Ohio) High is listed as Rivals' No. 88 senior and finished third in scoring at the Peach Jam. He averaged 21.5 points per game, while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from long range in pool play. He also averaged 7.5 as- sists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Xavier, Illinois and Purdue are among his leaders, though many think he'd probably go to MSU if offered. Four-star Devearl Ramsey of Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon led all players with 3.0 steals per game at the Peach Jam and played well at times, including a 17-point, nine-assist game in front of Beilein and Meyer. The 5-11 prospect, who is ranked as the No. 70 talent in the land, also finished No. 6 in assists (5.6) while averaging 11.6 points per game, shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 31.2 percent from long range. He saved his best for his last game, scoring 14 points in an 84-80 loss to Athletes First. Cal and the West Coast teams could be tough to overcome even if U-M starts to pursue him more fe- verishly. He'd have to visit, and even then it could be tough to land him. Beilein also caught Elizabeth (N.J.) The Patrick School four-star Bryce Aiken for at least half of one game. The 5-9 Aiken is the No. 101 prospect nationally and averaged nine points per game, while shooting 47.8 per- cent behind the arc in pool play at the Peach Jam. We don't see an offer in the near future. Campbellsville (Ky.) Taylor County four-star Quentin Goodin is waiting for someone to make him a priority, and the 6-3 shooting guard did his part to earn interest by scoring 28 points in 28 minutes during a loss to the N.Y. Rens at the Peach Jam. The nation's No. 71 player in the class made four of seven triples — not usually his forte — in the contest. We believe U-M could be in great standing right now with Goodin, but again, Winston is the priority and they'll wait him out into September. Florida, Louisville, Miami, Western Kentucky and Xavier are his other five schools. He added Michigan back on after initially cutting the list to five. Te'Jon Lucas out of Milwaukee is The Wolverines have made Detroit U-D Jesuit's Cassius Winston, the No. 28 overall senior nationally according to Rivals, their point guard priority in the 2016 class.
