5 Current Notre Dame verbal commits who play on teams ranked in the USA Today top 25 heading into the weekend of Nov. 21: Safety D.J. Morgan (No. 4 St. John Bosco in Bellflower, Calif.), run‑ ning back Tony Jones and safety Spencer Perry (No. 5 IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.), outside linebacker Jamir Jones (No. 23 Aquinas Institute in Rochester, N.Y.), and long snapper John Shannon (No. 24 Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill.). 9 Rushing touchdowns by Notre Dame quarterbacks Tony Rice in 1988 and Rick Mirer in 1991, the most by an Irish signal‑caller during the season, including bowl games. Sophomore DeShone Kizer entered the Nov. 21 game at Boston College with eight, giv‑ ing him an opportunity to break the mark over the final three (and hopefully four) contests. 10 Semifinalists named prior to the Nov. 21 weekend for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver, with Notre Dame junior Will Fuller among them. Golden Tate won the award as a junior for Notre Dame in 2009 before turning pro. The list fea‑ tures four seniors in Josh Doctson (TCU), Gabe Marks (Washington State), Tajae Sharpe (UMass) and Sterling Shepard (Oklahoma). The other juniors are Corey Coleman (Baylor), Taywan Taylor (Western Kentucky) and Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss). The sophomores are Roger Lewis (Bowling Green State) and JuJu Smith‑Schuster (USC). 15 Years since New Mexico head coach Bob Davie's last bowl game, a 41‑9 Fiesta Bowl defeat at Notre Dame to Oregon State. Fired the next season, Davie stayed out of coaching until 2012, when he took over at moribund New Mexico, which had not been over .500 since 2007. But this month his Lobos pulled off huge upsets against Utah State and then at 30‑point favorite Boise State Nov. 14 (31‑24) to improve to 6‑4 and become bowl eligible. New Mexico ended the Broncos' 18‑game winning streak at home, and it was only the fourth time in the last 16 years BSU lost on its blue turf. New Mexico is scheduled to play at Notre Dame on Sept. 14, 2019. 1949 The only team in Notre Dame history to have scored at least 22 points in its first 10 games — until this year's edition did the same during its 9‑1 start heading into the Boston College game Nov. 21. The Fighting Irish — led by College Football Hall of Fame members Leon Hart, Jim Martin, Emil Sitko, Bob Williams and Jerry Groom — finished 10‑0 and had their lowest output in a 27‑7 win at Washington and then in the 27‑20 finale at SMU to clinch its third national title in four years.
