FOOTBALL RECRUITING
and the Maize and Blue are set up to
close 2017 with even more firepower
from within their own borders.
THE FUTURE
The Wolverines have a number
of in-state targets still on the board.
While they won't get a clean sweep
of players they wanted — Ohio State
beat out the Maize and Blue for local
linebacker Antjuan Simmons — there
is a chance that Harbaugh and his
staff reel in the vast majority of their
in-state prospects with offers.
Detroit Cass Tech wide receiver
Donovan Peoples-Jones is the crown
jewel in the Great Lakes State. The 6-1,
188-pounder is ranked as a five-star
talent, the No. 1 recruit in Michigan,
and the No. 2 wideout and No. 13
overall prospect nationally.
Peoples-Jones has a national offer
list — including childhood favorites
Florida and USC — so he's no done
deal for Michigan, but he does give
the Wolverines a chance to land the
state's top player for the first time
since 2009, when fellow Cass Tech
five-star Will Campbell picked the
Maize ad Blue.
Detroit King cornerback Ambry
Thomas is listed as a four-star recruit,
the No. 2 player in the state, and the
No. 16 player at his position and
No. 154 overall nationally. The 5-11,
165-pounder holds a U-M offer, but
U‑M will try to land the top player in the state — Detroit Cass Tech star Donovan Peoples‑
Jones, who is listed as a five‑star prospect, and the No. 2 wideout and No. 13 overall player
in the country — for the first time since 2009.
