INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS
Student-Athlete Of The Month
Water Polo Junior Danielle Johnson
Her path to Michigan is a little different from most student-athletes, but water
polo redshirt junior Danielle Johnson has soared — both athletically and aca-
demically — while in Ann Arbor.
The Walnut Creek, Calif., native spent two years at Loyola Marymount before
deciding to transfer. She followed her younger sister Kim — a freshman on the
water polo team — to U-M last fall, and now that Danielle is here she has been
a solid utility player in the pool.
In her first season of action, she played in all 32 games and scored 32 goals
with 13 assists to help the No. 5 Wolverines win their first CWPA championship
since 2010 and sixth overall with a 9-2 victory over No. 14 Indiana in early May.
Out of the pool, she pushes herself to be great in the classroom and that led
her to earning U-M's Junior Highest Honors this year. She gives a lot of credit to
her parents when it comes to her — and her sister's — drive.
Johnson followed her younger sister to Ann Arbor and debuted for the Wolverines this
year with 32 goals and 13 assists to help U-M win the CWPA title.
