INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS "Our parents definitely pushed us both to do our best," Johnson said. "They really want us to succeed in every way possible." Johnson's studies and sport keep her busy, and now she's taking on an in- ternship to get ready for the working world. If everything goes as planned, she'll have another internship next year that will help prepare her for life after college. "I am a sport management major and I'll be working for the University of Michigan golf course, so that should be a great experience," she said. "I'm set to graduate in May 2017. I could've graduated early, but I didn't because I have the water polo season anyway. I'm not going to take that many units and that will allow me to do another internship. That should give me a lot more experience for a job after Michigan." With about a year left as a student at U-M, Johnson is preparing for the real world and doing so at a high level. She keeps herself busy with other endeav- ors, but there's always an underlying factor — sports. She loves the athletic world and hopes to make it a part of her life after college. "I expect to spend a lot of time with my internship coming up," she said. "I'm also on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and I'm also involved with the M-Leaders program, which is a group of coach-chosen athletes who have been identified for their leadership skills." Johnson was just named Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Year at the annual water polo banquet and is now preparing for Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA Championship. The Wolverines enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will try to avenge an 8-5 loss to ASU earlier this year. Sitting Down With Former Assistant Basketball Coach LaVall Jordan Michigan assistant coach LaVall Jordan has taken the head coaching job at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, capping a six-year run on John Beilein's staff. He talked about his time with the Wolverines and more when he returned for the Michigan Basketball Banquet in April. The Wolverine: What's been your impression after a few days on the job — do you feel different? Jordan: "I don't feel any different, but I remember when [my wife] Destinee and I had our first born. Everyone can tell you how, you can read all the books, but when you get home and it's just you and her looking at the baby, trying to figure it out and the baby starts crying … it's a similar experience.
