HOCKEY RECRUITING for the U.S. National Development Program Under-18 team this past year. While the 6-3, 214-pounder isn't prolific offensively, with 10 points in 61 games, he is the kind of physical, stay-at-home defender U-M needs more of. Martin also has size, standing in at 6-2, 201 pounds, and is a little more skilled with the puck, record- ing four goals and 15 assists for the U.S. Under-18 team, while the 6-0, 165-pound 20-year-old Meike brings a more mature game, having played three years in the United States Hockey League. "Griffin is an in-your-face type. He's the ultimate warrior," Wise- man said. "Luke Martin, on the other hand, gets up and down the ice really well, makes great outlet plays. He's a smart, intelligent hockey player. They are very different from one an- other, but what they have in common is they are competitive and will find their way to be successful here. "Christian is maybe a [rising ju- nior] Sam Piazza type, should be a player that rounds his game into form and works to become someone we can trust in the lineup, like we did with Sam." The 6-0, 199-pound Pastujov; 5-11, 172-pound Lockwood; and 6-1, 184-pound Sanchez also played for the U.S. Under-18 team this past year. Lockwood was the most successful with 30 points on 12 goals and 18 assists. Pastujov and Sanchez both con- tributed 18 points, combining for 20 goals. The 6-3, 201-pound Merl, who played in the USHL for the Bloom- ington Thunder, had 15 points in 57 games in 2015-16.
