The dynamic husband and wife team of David and Christina Weiss met in their first-year dorm in 2002, revering the Good Old Song ever since. Cavaliers to the core, the duo obtained their engineering degrees ('07 for her and '08 for him), followed by marriage in the Darden Dome Room. Parenthood then produced an energetic 2-year-old named Solomon — who already knows the song lyrics. As undergrads, they were immersed in fun and studies (in that order according to David). In addi- tion, they were co-founders, along with friends Hampton Conly and Lee Puckett, of a unified student cheering section that became the marvelous 'Hoo Crew. In 2014, the 'Hoo Crew won the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award, defeating 255 other schools. The award was presented to the 'Hoo Crew on the same day the UVA men's basketball team defeated Syracuse 75-56 to seal the ACC regular-season championship. "We were there; Solomon wasn't yet born, though," Christina happily recalled. "I was sobbing at the end of the game; pregnancy hormones!" That same year, 2-week-old Solomon joined his parents in Omaha, Neb., to watch the Cavaliers base- ball squad participate in the College World Series. Knowing where 'Hoo Crew is now and its humble but heartfelt beginnings, Christina said, "It's exciting to see the changes and the growth. Just the name recognition is amazing … we were sitting in a room just throwing names out, and now you walk around Charlottesville seeing fans wearing 'Hoo Crew t-shirts." For Christina, the first game in John Paul Jones Arena was incredible.
