Third-year track and field standout Henry Wynne was named both the ACC Outdoor and Indoor Men's Track Performer of the Year, but the top highlight of his outstand- ing year was winning the NCAA title in the indoor mile in March. PHOTO BY MATT RILEY/COURTESY UVA BREAKOUT ATHLETES As a second-year in 2015, Henry Wynne earned All-America accolades in the 1,500 meters and was part of UVA's distance medley relay that won the ACC title and finished sixth nationally. He took it to another level this year, starting with becom- ing the Cavaliers' top cross country finisher (12th) at the NCAA Southeast Regional. He then went on to be named both the ACC Outdoor and Indoor Men's Track Performer of the Year. During the indoor season, he became an ACC champion in the mile and the distance med- ley relay, while also earning all-league honors in the 3,000 meters. Wynne then raced his way to an NCAA championship in the indoor mile. During the outdoor season, he broke the school record in the 1,500 (3:38.05) at the Virginia Chal- lenge and finished undefeated in the event dur- ing the regular season. He went on to become the ACC champion in the 1,500 and placed third nationally to earn first-team All-America honors. Second-year pole vaulter Bridget Guy was equally impressive for the track and field team. She set an indoor school record in the pole vault when she cleared 13 feet, 8¼ inches at the ACC Championships, which earned her a fourth- place finish and All-ACC recognition. She earned similar honors during the outdoor season when she placed fourth in the pole vault at the ACC Championships. Guy won this event at three outdoor meets, the Highlander Invitational with a school-record vault of 13 feet, 10½ inches that ranked 17th in the NCAA plus the Virginia Quad and the Fred Hard Invitational.
