TOP ROOKIES How high is the ceiling for first-year third base- man Nate Eikhoff? If his first year was any indica- tion, it could be very high. He was rated the No. 12 prospect in Virginia in the class of 2015 by Perfect Game and lived up to that ranking. Eikoff led all UVA first-years in hitting (.284), hits (29), doubles (seven), triples (three), slugging per- centage (.441) and on-base percentage (.321). He also tied for most RBI (17) and tied for second on the team by grounding into only two double plays. Hilmar Jonsson literally made a smashing debut when he broke the Virginia first-year record in the weight throw (66 feet, eight inches), which also ranked second on the university's all-time list. He earned second-team All-ACC honors after placing sixth in the weight throw at the conference championships. Matthew Novak out-did his classmate by garner- ing second-team All-America honors after run- ning a leg on the distance medley relay team that placed 10th at the NCAA Championships. Novak also ran on the DMR team that captured the ACC championship. He also clocked a season- best 4:03.93 in the mile at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, which ranked third on UVA's all-time rookie list. Third baseman Nate Eikhoff put together a nice rookie campaign, pacing all UVA first- years in batting (.288), hits (29), doubles (seven), triples (three), slugging (.441) and on-base percentage (.321).
