www.BLUEANDGOLD.com NOV. 7, 2016 53 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP • Notre Dame lost one of its top defensive line commits Oct. 18 when Beaver Falls (Pa.) High 2017 defensive end Donovan Jeter backed off his com- mitment. Jeter committed to the Irish shortly after his official visit the weekend of the Michigan State game Sept. 17. He has since committed to Michigan. Jeter made news when quotes comparing Harbaugh to Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly became public. He apologized for the comments he made on Twitter. Losing Jeter, the nation's No. 14 defensive tackle according to Rivals, leaves another hole for the Irish to fill with its remaining spots in the 2017 class. The versatile Jeter can play both inside at defensive tackle and outside at defensive end. Notre Dame is still looking to add a pass-rushing defensive end to the 2017 class. • The Irish want to add another safety to the 2017 class to go with Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley Rivals four-star Isaiah Robertson. The loss of Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High Rivals three-star Amari Carter to Miami (Fla.) sparked a new addition to the safety board: Cincinnati La Salle Rivals three-star and Lou- isville commit TreSean Smith. The 6-1, 186-pound Smith has been committed to Louisville since June and also holds offers from Iowa State, Syracuse and Western Kentucky. Notre Dame reached out to Smith in September to check on a few things such as academics, etc., and just more than a month later extended the offer. The relationship between the two is still in the early stages, so it is unclear whether or not Smith will make it to South Bend for a visit or if the offer will change his recruitment. As a junior, Smith posted 47 tackles and six interceptions. • During the bye week, the Irish coaching staff extended three new offers with one going to Smith. The other two went to the 2018 class: Lindenhurst (N.Y.) Senior four-star tight end Jeremy Ruckert and Atlanta Westlake Rivals100 cornerback Myles Sims. Ruckert is ranked by Rivals as the No. 7 tight end and the No. 133 overall player in the junior class, and Sims is ranked as the No. 8 cornerback and No. 70 overall player nationally. Ruckert holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State, among others. Sims' offer list includes Georgia, Michigan, Auburn, Clemson, Michigan State and Oklahoma. • Notre Dame was scheduled to host two 2017 four-star targets for the Miami game Oct. 29, but neither trip occurred. Both Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River safety Devon Hunter, who is ranked by Rivals as the No. 3 safety and No. 53 overall player nation- ally, and Los Angeles Cathedral wide receiver Jamire Calvin, who is ranked by Rivals as the No. 36 wide receiver and No. 243 overall player in the country, were looking to visit South Bend, but nixed those plans earlier in the week. Calvin is expected to visit at some point, while Hunter's situation is more un- certain. The Irish are looking to add another safety and wide receiver to the 2017 class, and both players would fill the needs at those positions. — Corey Bodden and David McKinney Follow @BGI_CoreyBodden and @BGI_DMcKinney on Twitter for daily recruiting updates available on BlueandGold.com! • LB David Adams: Became Pittsburgh Central Catholic's (8-1) all-time leader in tackles while compiling seven stops and a sack in a 41-0 victory on the road against North Huntingdon (Pa.)
