72 ■ THE WOLFPACKER WOLFPACK FOOTBALL the Independence Bowl Dec. 26 with 2,809 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns in his career. He recently accepted a spot to the prestigious Senior Bowl Jan. 28 in Mobile, Ala. Adams started all 12 games and played 97 percent of the team's offensive snaps. He was credited with not allowing a sack all season. NCSU junior defensive end Bradley Chubb earned third-team All-ACC recog- nition after his breakout season. He led the Wolfpack with 9.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and seven quarterback hurries. He also was the top lineman on the team with 55 tackles, which ranked sixth overall on the defense. Chubb is tied for fifth in the ACC in sacks and tied for first in tackles for loss. Three NC State players earned honor- able mention All-ACC — redshirt junior free safety Josh Jones, junior tight end/full- back Jaylen Samuels and fifth-year senior center Joe Scelfo. The latter led the team in knockdown blocks and played in 99 percent of the team's total offensive snaps. Samuels caught 49 passes for 461 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed 31 times for 180 yards and six scores during his junior season. He also threw a memorable 59-yard touchdown pass to redshirt sopho- more wide receiver Stephen Louis against the Tar Heels. Samuels earned first-team All-ACC accolades last year. Jones enjoyed a bounce-back campaign and led NC State with 106 total tackles. He added four tackles for loss, two intercep- tions, one sack, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. He ranks sixth in the league in tackles. Matthew Dayes Reaches Special Milestone NC State has had some talented running backs, even an NFL one in recent years, but for whatever reasons couldn't find one to reach 1,000 yards. Sometimes two good multiple backs would split carries. Injuries would some- times get in the way, which slowed down former New York Giant Andre Brown and Toney Baker, or a combination of injuries and a suspension in the case of Shadrach Thornton. Dayes probably would have reached the mark last year, but a season-ending foot in- jury ended that dream. After rushing for 76 yards against Miami Nov. 19, Dayes finally became the first NC State running back to reach 1,000 since T.A. McLendon in 2002. Dayes finished the regular season with 240 carries for 1,119 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to second-team All-ACC honors.
